Biker Chic

Biker Chic

If I had to pinpoint my style, it would be difficult to label myself. Somedays I feel ridiculously girly and decide to dress myself in pinks, skater skirts and lace. On other days I get this bad girl vibe deck myself out in black, leather and marled clothes.

But even though I don't have one particular style to differeniate myself from others by, I appreciate being able to go back and forth with differnt looks. It allows for a very diverse (albeit expensive) closet from where I can draw inspiration from and to cross my styles amongst each other to create new looks. Some may peak into their closets frustrated each morning with the thought that they have nothing to wear (don't lie, we've all done it at least once), but now I look at my closet in inspiration. Curious as to how many different outfits I can create by not restricting myself to one particular style.

The Boyfriend

The Boyfriend
These jeans are by far my absolute favorite, in both looks and comfort. If only they didn't swallow my frame and I could wear them without the belt, ha! But unfortunately for me, most of the boyfriend cut jeans that I've tried on literally slip right off as soon as I pull them on. So if anyone knows of a pair or brand that sells a slimmer cut then please let me know!

WMCFW 2014: Day 5

WMCFW 2014: Day 5

For the last and final day of WMCFW S/S 2015, I decided to go all out and wear the most avant garde outfit that I own. This blue "paperbag" dress (from the H&M Studio collection) was surprisingly comfortable, though I did wear a paper of spandex shorts underneath to prevent any suprising flashes in the case of a bend over mishap. I've never actually worn something as crazy as this before, and was a little bit worried as to how comfortable I'd feel wearing something as out there as this.

Surprisingly though, I didn't feel out of place whatsoever at all, considering that it is Fashion Week afterall, and I am in Toronto, as opposed to Ottawa. This dress received lots of love, inspiring me to continue and explore unconventional fashion as it's so much more fun than just your everyday closet.

I can't have a Fashion Week post without including some photos from the shows right? One of the biggest surprises on the last day was seeing Gina Tores (Jessica from Suits) walk the runway for Huntress' debut launch. She commandeered the two dogs who walked down the runway with her and looked stunning!

Another fan favorite amongst the show goers was Mikhael Kale's beautifully constructed dresses. The fold out piece paired well against futuristic cut-outs. His collection also played with a variety of fabrics (sometimes up to 3-4 in one look alone) and showed great attention to detail.

WMCFW 2014: Day 5

One of my favorite designers that showed was Brit Wacher. Mostly because her collection was very ready-to-wear and designed with a modern and minimalistic aesthetic in mind. I absolutely loved her boxy designs as well as the different fabrics and textures. Like Mikhael Kale, her artful use of folds in fabrics worked fantastically against her neutral palettes, yet allowed her to add in subtle pops of colors. My absolute favorite look, was the skirt with a fluorescent yellow underlining that glowed againt the marbled silver fabric.

And of course you can't end Fashion Week without a closing show by Mikael D. His collection was filled with beautiful formal and evening dresses that accentuated the models' figures and were completely on trend. Beauty pageant fluffy level dresses? Nope, think adorably modern, sleek and sexy silhouettes.

It was fantastic covering WMCFW S/S 2015 and I met some extremely talented and kind people throughout the week! I'm definitely hoping to be at the next one in 6 months time to see the new looks that designers have created!

WMCFW 2014: Day 4

WMCFW 2014: Day 4

After waking up to only 4 hours of sleep, my exhausted body hauled itself out of bed made it's way to WMCFW for day 4. I'm surprised that I actually made it all the way through this week without crashing yet. My team had the chance to interview 5 designers participating in the Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) program as well as enjoy a lovely brunch provided for by WMCFW. I'll wake up to 4 hours of sleep for smoked salmon and breakfast sausages anyday!

I took advantage of the warmer temperatures by braving the outdoors in a crop top, pleather skirt and of course my furry vest to keep myself warm. I've also been needing a reason to wear these stacked heels one last time before the snow falls, and apparently I created the perfect oufit to match it!

WMCFW 2014: Day 3

WMCFW 2014: Day 3

We're more than halfway through the craziness that is WMCFW and I'm just about ready to crawl into bed to hibernate! I've been up and about for 15+ hours a day everyday this week so far and it's really starting to take it's toll on me. Living on a liquid diet when you're running around doing things all day long really isn't effective and I definitely need to start consuming some solids again soon.

That being said, I've quite enjoyed my time at WMCFW15 and can't wait to see what's in store for the last two days! Oh did I mention that I got snapped by Toronto Life for street style and was featured in one of their posts?

Not going to lie, it was quite the chilly day, but anything in the name of fashion right? Don't worry, I had my jacket inside waiting for me when I left to go home. No hives for me this week!

I've also found the solution to my baby hairs and flyaways: Redken Control Addict 28 - Extra High Hold Hairspray (wow that was a mouthful). We were given bottles of this hairspray in our goodie bags, and though I'm not a fan of crunchy sprays, this one did it's duty in taming my fly-aways. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to achieve the slicked back and clean look.

WMCFW 2014: Day 2

WMCFW 2014: Day 2

It feels like the longest day, but it's not. I'm only on the second day of a weeklong stretch of WMCFW S/S 2015 and I'm already starting to feel worn out. I'm currently putting together this post at 3:45 AM, and will have to wake up by 9 AM in order to get ready to attend a brunch. Although it's tiring, I definitely cannot complain about the amount of fun I've been having attending all of h shows and parties. It's definitely a blast, but I can't wait until I can crawl into bed tonight for a quick few hours of shut-eye before it starts all over again.

I can't attend WMCFW S/S 2015 and can't not talk about the shows right? But becase I have to attend each and every single one for work, I'll just share my favorites. Of all the designers who walked the runway last night, my absolute favorite would have to be NARCES

The beautifully detailed and delicate dresses had me drooling all over my seat and wishing that I had events to attend in order to justify the puchase of one of the dresses. I smell the burn of my credit card soon. The designer left $100 gift certificates at each of our seats, so you know that's going to be put to good use!

Just tell me you aren't falling in love with these designs yet. I dare you!

WMCFW 2014: Day 1

WMCFW 2014: Day 1

Yesterday was the opening night for World Mastercard Fashion Week 2014 to showcase designers' Sping 2014 collections. I attended the event on behalf of my work with the responsibilities to provide editorial coverage for our projects and I figured heck, why not snap a couple of photos for myself!

Of all 3 shows that I attended last night, I can definitely say that Sid Neigum was my absolute favorite. His artistic play on texture through a monochromatic pattern demontrates that you don't necessarily need color in your wardrobe in order to add detail to your look. With the write construction of materials and through the correct choice of fabric, intricite details can be created in the absence of color.

Pink Tartan's collection was also beautiful, and played on the fringe trend, but I wasn't exactly feeling the whole 70's vibe that was going on with the geometric prints on the pajama like sets and the bold white piping. Some of the backless jumpsuits did have stunning silhouetts albeit they also had a crazy fringe trim.

The winner of the Mercedes-Benz Startup actually ended up being Sid Neigum, which was suitably appropriate since he such an immaculate collection. The fact that he was already showing his collection on the runways himself demonstrates his aptitude in the fashion industry and a strong promising career.

I've already fallen in love with so many of his textural masterpieces, if only I had a place to wear them to!

Girly Grunge

Girly Grunge

Everyone has those day where they just want to dress down and stay comfortable without sacrificing style. That's where my blanket scarves come into play. If you haven't noticed by now, I kind of abuse my scarves and wear them out as much as possible (basically everyday).

I paired up your basic jeans and a T-shirt with my blanket scarf which complemented my pink moto jacket. I felt that the overall look felt too covered up, so I played around with the cuffing situation that's happening at my ankles. Finding the right length that felt right, I tied the whole outfit together with a simple pair of black ankle booties.

How do you dress up your basic look?

Silken Flowers

Silken Flowers

I've found that simplicity is key when adding new pieces to my wardobe. Basic silhouettes that work well when layered together are the most important pieces to me now. I used to gravitate towards statement pieces in hopes of standing out from the crowd, but now I much more appreciate a minimalistic style.

I have yet to completely lose my preference for statement pieces though, as seen evident by my silk floral pieces. But instead of dressing in head to toe statement, I prefer it to be done in smaller pieces.

Autumn's Warmth

Autumn's Warmth

Over the long weekend, I went back home to visit Ottawa and to see my family and friends for Thanksgiving. It's become kind of an unsaid Ottawa tradition for people to drive up to the Gatineau Park for a quick hike and to see the leaves. We're pretty lucky at this time of the year since the leaves have changed the perfect amount of color and the weather is still warm enough to not freeze yourself on the hike.

I had the chance to not only go once but twice this past weekend. The first weekend P and I drove up to the Champlain lookout to meet up with some friends in order to capture the beautiful sunset. Unfortunately for us, I improperly mapped out the route and wound up an hours distance away at Lac Phillippe instead. It was safe to say that P was not happy. We remedied that situation with some food afterwards.

I went again a couple days afterwards with my parents and brother to see the Luskville Falls. If you're interested in this hike, a fair warning that it's quite the challenging one. You'll literally be climbing over rocks and boulders for about 80% of the time. So make sure tha you're up for the challenge, because the view can be quite rewarding!

Autumn's Warmth

I've teamed up with Triple Duet to provide you guys with a fantastic offer to shop chloe + isabel's handmade jewelry and recieve a free pair of stud earrings! Designed in New York and produced by the same jewelers as Barney's and Neiman Marcus, you know that these pieces were made with the utmost of care.

I've chosen to add the Morning Tide East-West Pendant Necklace to my collection because of how delicate this piece is. If you know me, then you know how much I love my dainty jewelry. However, every once in awhile, I like to foray a little bit into the more statement pieces. And without having to make the huge leap into chunky necklaces, this piece adds just the right amount of extra sparkle without overwhelming my frame!

I'm also a sucker for sparkly things and anything marble, so hey why not right?

Triple Duet has offered my lovely readers who place orders over $75 USD, a free set of beautiful stud earrings (you know I love my studs, so I'll most likely be placing an order myself!). And if you're not a huge fan of studs, well why not get ahead on your Christmas shopping and save the pair of earrings for a lucky friend?

Unfortunately for my fellow Canadian's, Triple Duet's site can currently only take orders to the US. However, we have come up with a remedy to this! If you're interestd in ordering an item, simply send in an order to triple.duet@gmail.com and she'll be able to place the order on your behalf and have the items mailed to you! Trust me here, I'm a Canadian too ;).

If you're interested in picking up a piece for yourself (or even my necklace too), make sure to SHOP before October 22 to take advantage of this amazing offer of a free pair of earrings!
